    Message from the Principal

    Dear Parents,

In February we often think about LOVE. So as we all are coming back to school after the strike, what a perfect time to express the love, respect, and gratitude I fell toward you parents, our wonderful teachers, the students, our classified staff, and our volunteers.

There were so many difficult decisions for all of you to make. It was not as simple as “for teachers” or “against teachers”. The strike was difficult and painful for EVERYONE. But yet, we all showed a tremendous amount of respect toward one another. As I hear my colleagues from other school talk about teachers blocking children at the gate, yelling at parents, and interrupting activities inside of the school I am proud to applaud the way that our teachers conducted themselves. Also, I am proud of how our parent showed support in so many ways. About half of our parents made the very tough decision to keep their children at home. The other half sent their children but provided support in several other ways. Parents walked the line, brought food and drinks to the teachers, sent Class Dojo messages to them to help keep their spirits up and so much more.

The employees and volunteers who worked supported the teachers while also being inside of the school to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students that did attend classes. The cooperation and tireless effort was a beautiful sight to see. The students that attended adjusted to the new schedule and cooperated even though they missed their teachers tremendously.

While I am so glad that the strike is over, I hope that the passion and cooperation that we witnessed during the strike stays with us.

    Sincerely,

    Cora L. Watkins
